Why Thanksgiving Is Giving Me Deja Vu

December 2, 2008 at 12:23 am (Emily, Father, Mary, Mother, Scott, Working Mom, baby, mom) (, , , , )

It is hard to believe that it has been a year already since last time the holidays were upon us.  I feel as though the last year of my life has been such a whirlwind.  It seems odd to me that first year of Emily’s life was so clear, so focused and this year has been so blurry and different.  You never know where life will lead you or who it will cause you to become.  It is so easy to get caught up in a woah-is-me type of attitude when things are not going the way that you had planned or they are hard.  These are the times when it is so important to step back and see that while this is not what you have planned, things seldom are.  God, or whatever you happen to believe in, is guiding you in the path that is meant for you.  I cannot live thinking that things are random or unplanned by something bigger than me.  I have to feel as though each thing that I experience has been for a reason.  I have learned something or grown from it.  I wrote last year that I was looking forward to the Christmas season, even though Scott hadn’t been working.  Looks like I could cut and paste that post into this year’s Thanksgiving post and it would be about the same. 2008 has been a hard year.  I hope that 2009 holds something special for our little family.  I have more things to be thankful for than not.  I just wish for an easier go of it in the not-too-distant future.  I love my husband and my little girl.  I have a nice job and a lovely home.  I have friends and extended family who love and cherish me. And, I have something bigger than me that although I may feel troubled, I know he is looking out for me.  For that, I am thankful.  I hope your Thanksgiving brought you joy.

Mary, it sounds like you are keeping a good attitude in the midst of less-than-ideal circumstances. I guess things never go quite like we think they should. This makes me think of an encourage Bible verse that lets us know God use any circumstance for good:

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Happy Thanksgiving, and enjoy the Christmas season!
